Industry Spotlight

The Terex/Demag CC 8800-1 TWIN is an impressive crawler crane, boasting a maximum lifting capacity of 3,500 U.S. tons. It features a maximum boom length of 383 feet and a jib that extends up to 118 feet. When equipped with its additional boom and other distinguishing features, the already formidable CC 8800-1 gains an enhanced strength of 270%. The Terex/Demag CC 8800-1 TWIN comes pre-installed with 135 tons of counterweight, distributed across 12 individual pieces. For more demanding lifts, Terex provides the option to add up to 78 additional plates, each weighing ten tons. A dedicated carrier for the counterweights is also available, equipped with hydraulic drive and steering capabilities. Furthermore, the Terex team offers reinforced boom and jib heads designed for heavier lifting tasks. Powering this crane is a diesel OM 502 LA engine, which generates 516 horsepower and adheres to Tier III emissions standards. The crawlers are driven by four hydraulic motors, operating through closed planetary gear reduction units submerged in an oil bath. Each unit features a spring- loaded, hydraulically released holding brake. While the crawlers are consistent with those of the CC 8800-1, they are enhanced by an additional gear drive. Standard equipment includes five rope drums, each powered by a clos planetar gear system operating in an oil bath. Each rope drum is equipped with hydraulically released multi-disc brakes, and quick connect rope and end fittings come as standard features.
