International Regulations, Training & Certifications

U.S.A.

NCCCO and the Crane Certification Association of America (CCAA) cooperatively developed the Crane Inspector Certification for crane inspectors along with subject matter experts from many industries that use cranes. The program is managed on an ongoing basis by NCCCO’s Crane Inspector Exam Management Committee. The CCO Crane Inspector program has been accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to the ISO/IEC 17024 International Standard for organizations that certify personnel. United Kingdom In the United Kingdom, the primary standard for crane inspector certification is the "BS 7121" British Standard Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Cranes, which provides guidelines for crane inspection, maintenance, and safe operation, essentially setting the standard for a competent crane inspector in the UK; this standard is often referenced by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) when assessing crane safety practices. Key points about BS 7121 and crane inspector certification in the UK: Compliance with regulations: BS 7121 is aligned with the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998, which mandates regular examinations of lifting equipment by a "competent person". Scope of the standard: BS 7121 covers various aspects of crane safety including pre-use checks, thorough examinations, maintenance procedures, and selection of appropriate cranes for the task. Competency requirement: To be considered a competent crane inspector, individuals must possess the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to identify defects and assess the safety of cranes based on the guidelines outlined in BS 7121. Australia - Crane safety is governed by work health and safety (WHS) regulations, which mandate strict guidelines for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of cranes. These regulations are critical for ensuring compliance and maintaining the safe operation of cranes in industrial settings. Crane Inspectors need to have a valid Crane Inspection Awareness Certification.
